An attempt to do our bit

We're all the same.
We have the power to make a difference, all of us.
May be 0.001%, but we do!

Here's to trying to make a difference to the planet, however meagre we may think it might be
Try it out, anyway

The Green Lane India campaign: The What, Why and How

THE GREEN LANE

THE GREEN LANE is a CYCLING CAMPAIGN to revive the cycling culture in Urban India and to make our cities more Livable, Healthier and Cleaner by using more sustainable modes of travel and transport such as Walking, Cycling and Public Transport.

The campaign will be undertaken by me - Ashik Jain, through a 48 day long cycle expedition across the length of the country from Srinagar to Kanyakumari starting from Monday, 10th February, 2014 to Sunday, 30th of March 2014.

WHY THIS CAMPAIGN?

Indians are fast approaching a critical stage where a vehicular cyclone is engulfing not only our roads but also our entire cities and strangulating them in traffic jams and pollution. But there is still hope for change with various organizations throughout the country working with a vision for creating better cities for our future and saving the country from the dangerous slide towards total automobile dominance.

The current paradigm, of more and more new cars and multi lane freeways as measures of economic prosperity, that has penetrated into our society must be questioned. We need to understand that an alternative to the noise, disruption and automobile pollution is possible.

HOW?

The main objective of my cycle expedition is to to increase awareness- primarily amongst the school children in the towns and cities I visit. I am contacting various schools and organizations that can support me in spreading this awareness through short presentations / interactive sessions, distribution of informative booklets etc.

The campaign will also help to link the efforts of numerous organizations in the country working in this field, gauge the problems, current conditions and response of an audience across the nation, instead of limiting it to a town, city or state.

WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT!

We need your support in getting in touch with these Organizations and Schools that could become a part of this campaign and help in taking it further. Dates can be fixed according to the schedule, to be put up shortly, and any modifications in the same will be informed immediately.

We look forward to your support and guidance and we hope this campaign will be a start of a process that will eventually create cycle friendly cities throughout the country!
